Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current dietary life and to provide useful information for table manners and dietary behavior. The subjects in this study were consisted of 1,261 participants (618 males and 643 females) in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. The results were summarized as follows: 42.6% of people thought that their mother mostly affected them to learn about table manners among different family members. Half of the subjects(49.6%) had dinners with their family members while talking on topics concerned with their family(p< .001). The people take a meal for 3 times a day(66.7%, p< .001). The subjects answered that they eat out 1 or 2 times a month and the ratio of eating-out was higher in young people compared to their parents(p< .001). Many Korean people usually drunk water during dinner. Also the elders used to have a tea after each meal following the traditional culture. In conclusion, we learned that many people of Daegu and Gyeongbuk keep the traditional dietary culture in spite of several influences such as expansion of nuclear family and westernization of food, However, the dietary culture of young people have been westernized compared to their parent.
