Abstract

Experimentally investigated the possibilities of controlling the instability that develops in the form of traveling azimuthal waves in the spherical Couette flow. It was found that the action on the traveling azimuthal waves of periodic modulation of the internal sphere rotation speed can lead to their suppression, when the modulation is switched-off, the instability in the form of traveling azimuthal waves is restored, including with a change in the wave number. It was found that it is possible to maintain a stable stationary flow for a long time after the end of modulation - at least 50 minutes, or 2000 revolutions of the inner sphere, which is four times longer than the transition time in the stationary flow.
