Abstract

In the article the author analyzes the reforming measures of the British Secretary of the State for War E. Cardwell in 1868-1874. On the basis of documents from the archival collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the article highlights the process of improving the British army, the congruity of military reforms to the political realities relevant at that time, and the significance of E. Cardwell’s measures in the historical perspective.
