Abstract
The notion of information tends to become blurred within the contemporary discourse not only due to its polysemy, but due to its paradoxical nature. Analysing the generally accepted definitions of “information” and relying on examples from the spheres of scientific cognition and personal choice, the author identifies essential features of information: finite sequence (arrangement) of elements within the given environment, systematicity, necessary existence of information receiver, level of logical (not ethical) choice. Originality of the study includes developing an onto-gnoseological approach to information, which is considered not just as a philosophical category but as a modern world vision.
