Abstract

The article presents a review of the works by writers of Western psychological school studying state of a working person (G. Z. Bedny, G. R. J. Hockey, M. Csikszentmihalyi, G. R. Hackman & J. R. Oldham, J. C. Vischer). The framework of categories of the concepts presented in the review is quite diverse and many terms have no adequate translation equivalent in the Russian language. It has been found that the concept “functional state” is rare in the mentioned works. The author outlined the main theoretical and methodological construct of studies (“state during working activity”), identified the basic approach of empirical research of working person’s state (“situational”), and considered assessment and correction techniques of working person’s state. The strategies for optimizing person’s state, which improve his or her working efficiency, have been outlined.
