Abstract
The article presents the main characteristics of understanding the essence of independence in the psychological and pedagogical literature, as well as in the normative legal documents of the Russian higher school. The main positions of the subject-activity approach in the study of independence are considered, which represent the processes of cognition aimed at forming a personality as a self-organizing subject capable of critically analyzing and realizing his actions and deeds. The author gives his own interpretation of the definition of independence based on terminological research in the context of comparative analysis. Attention is drawn to the professional training of cadets of the National Guard troops of the Russian Federation and the need to realize the formation of future officers as subjects of their official activities in the learning process. The statement is made about the impossibility of the full realization of the phenomenon of independence, if the educational activity was not focused on the transition of educational activity into selfactivity. The importance of the influence of the principles of the subject-activity approach in the disclosure of creative potential, moral improvement and the ability to find solutions in difficult life and extreme situations is emphasized.
