Abstract
The article examines the views of the American authors of the 1820-1850s on genesis of the USA foreign policy. The study focuses on analyzing the views of G. Bancroft, T. Lyman Junior, J.-B. de Marigny, T. Pitkin, W. H. Trescot, R. Hildreth. Scientific originality of the paper lies in the fact that the paradigmatic analysis method is applied to systematize the researchers’ views, to reveal internal and external factors influencing these views, to evaluate the contribution of a certain author to historiography of the problem. The research findings are as follows: the author shows how the process of paradigmatic transition from pre-scientific to scientific thinking influenced amateur historians’ views developing within the framework of “autochthonal”, “international”, institutional, nationalistic, systemic, juridical approaches.
