Abstract

This research has a purpose to check relationships among physical activities, self-esteem, depression and suicidal ideation targeting youth. For this purpose, data on 872 high school students going to 8 high schools in the northern, the central and the southern part were used, and questionnaires on physical activities, self-esteem, depression and suicidal ideation were used as measuring instruments. Verification for reliability and validity, frequency analysis, correlation analysis, path analysis were conducted for the research result. As for the result, it showed that the physical activities have a significant effect on self-esteem, depression and suicidal ideation, and have an indirect effect on suicidal ideation through self-esteem and depression. It also showed that the self-esteem has a significant effect on depression and suicidal ideation, and have an indirect effect on suicidal ideation through depression. The result of this research suggests that regular physical activities can be a necessary mediation strategy for improvement of mental health and precaution of suicide.
