Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify and propose the needs of people with developmental disabilities for residential services and the necessary support measures in order for them to live an independent life in the community. To this end, focus group interviews were conducted with 5 parents with developmental disabilities.
The main fi ndings are as follows. First, in relation to caring for children with developmental disabilities, it was found that they are facing difficult situations due to challenging behaviors, poor health care, maladaptation to new environments and changes in circumstances, and conflicts within the family. Second, as a housing support service necessary for the independent life of people with developmental disabilities, the introduction of a national responsibility system for people with developmental disabilities, the development of a standard manual to promote communication, the strengthening of lifelong education for each level, the strengthening of income security, and the expansion of specialized medical services were proposed.
