Abstract

The article discusses the veneration of birch among the Bashkirs, which goes back to ancient beliefs, the cult of ancestors, the ideas of the Bashkirs about the soul, the other world. In the traditional culture of the Bashkirs, an ambivalent attitude towards birch was observed. It performed utilitarian functions, was used in folk crafts. At the same time, the Bashkirs were careful not to use birch forest in the construction of residential buildings, which is explained by the sacredness and physical properties of birch wood.
