Abstract
In order to review patriotism as a basic legal category on the fundamental scientific level, one needs to generalize the available research in this sphere, analyze the tendencies attributable to such research and prove the expediency of singling out such legal category as patriotism.A complex scientific analysis of the concept under consideration requires determination of the area of the theoretical legal study that will give an opportunity to bring the indicated legal phenomenon to light and determine its essence and place in the legal matter. Initially, it is suggested to focus on the study of setting of this scientific problem in history of the philosophical, political and legal thought. To do that, let’s review in detail the history of the development of state and law doctrines including scientific thoughts on law and patriotism and the interrelation between them.
