Abstract

Objectives This study aims to examine the characteristics of experience with infants and toddlers that pre-service teachers met during the course of childcare practice and to examine the meaning of the experience. Based on this, we will provide basic data for pre-service teachers to be more efficient and valuable practice time.
Methods For this purpose, 13 pre-service teachers attending the early childhood education department wrote reflective journals based on their experiences after the early childhood education and analyzed them.
Results As a result, the experience with infants and young children that the pre-service teachers met in the nursery training showed characteristics such as difficulty to approach, confused me, and notice. The meaning of the experience with infants and young children, which can be seen in the process of forming the relationship with infants and young children, was revealed to reflect, feel close, and learn themselves in the process of forming a new relationship.
Conclusions The results of this study are expected to be used to understand the experience of pre-service teachers with infants and to find a more desirable ‘teacher’ method in the course of practice. Therefore, this study will give implications for childcare teacher education for pre-service teachers.
