Abstract
The article explores one of the expressions of the mythologeme of the island in modern Russian culture. The author reviews the representation of Zeleny Island, which is located on the Don River in the city limits of Rostov-on-Don. The material for the study is the texts of the Internet lore formed around the image of the island, which can be found on various web resources (Internet media, thematic sites, forums, blogs, communities in social networks, etc.). In most cases, Zelenyi Island is presented in the internet lore as an «anomalous zone». The article identifies and analyzes the main images and motifs that are used to represent the island of Zeleny as an «abnormal zone», reveals their connection with images and motifs from mythological representations and folklore of the Russian folk. Using the example of Zeleny Island, the study compares the representation of the island in contemporary Russian culture (Internet lore texts) with traditional Russian culture (mythological concepts and folklore). The study also considers how the image of Zeleny Island formed in the media environment impacts on the mythologization of the city space
