Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze how effective teaching English writing is for students through both online classes, which were held due to the global spread of the corona epidemic, and current offline classes. This study aims at the effects of offline/online classes actually conducted in the English writing class for students majoring in English, and explores how effectively the improvement of students’ writing ability and the correction instruction of the writings are made in offline/online classes based on actual class contents. The immediate correction for each learner’s writing is performed well in online classes which mainly deals with controlled and guided writing, whereas free writing and group work activities are proved to be effective in offline classes. As a result, it could be confirmed that the instructor’s teaching strategy, which can be appropriately utilized in offline/ online classes, plays an important role in improving the educational effect of English writing instruction.
