Abstract

Vladimir Emmanuilovich Bank is one of those librarians whose names are associated with grandiose projects for the restructuring of the country’s library business in the 1920s–1930s. organization of reference and bibliographic services in the largest scientific libraries, creation of the first union catalogs and organization of higher library education in Russia. For the first time, using archival material, the activities of V. E. Bank in the pre-revolutionary period of his work in the Imperial Public Library, which became the basis for his many further fruitful endeavors, are examined in detail.
