Abstract
The presented article reveals the influence of the ideas of enlightenment philosophers on the formation of a model of interaction between bearers of Orthodox and secular cultures in Russia in the 18th century. Based on the analysis of typologies of intercultural interactions and some examples taken from the reign of Peter I, Elizabeth and Catherine II, the dynamics of the attitude of high society, which had secular cultural traditions, towards Orthodox culture is comprehended. It is shown that the model of interaction between Orthodox and secular cultures during the period under review was formed depending on the degree of the monarch’s perception of the ideas of enlightenment. In view of this, in order to achieve a holistic understanding of the model of interaction between Orthodox and secular cultures in a given time period, it is proposed to take into account not only the spread of the ideas of the dominant philosophy, but also the subjective factor associated with the person at the head of the state.
