Abstract

The problem of the emergence and development of railway transport in the Stavropol province, as the most important tool for the development of the region, is considered. Preconditions and opinions on the appropriateness of this type of message are given. The chronology of the events is given, starting from the idea of building railways in the North Caucasus and in the province under consideration, in particular, to the emergence of a network of open and planned railways. The prerequisites and problems associated with the planning and approval of intraregional lines are considered. In the middle of the 19th century the railway has already proven its worth for the development of internal communication routes and is rapidly enveloping Russian regions. In the 1860s the Caucasian governorship began to consider the issue of connecting the North Caucasus with the center of the province. According to preliminary projects, the line was supposed to pass through the territory of the Stavropol province through its administrative center - Stavropol, which was historically a transit point of the horse-drawn road to Vladikavkaz and further to the Caucasus. However, it was finally decided to bypass the city of Stavropol to the south, as a result of which this circumstance began to affect negatively both the city life and the region as a whole. In the future, the leadership and residents of the Stavropol Region, in order to prevent the decline, had to seek the construction of their own railway network themselves.
