Abstract
The research objective is as follows: relying on the analysis of minor inscriptions on the facade of Pisa Cathedral, local chronographic sources, documents from the archive of Pisa Cathedral, archive of Archdiocese of Pisa, the author tries to identify Guido and Ricardo mentioned in the epitaph. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher introduces into scientific circulation a minor epitaph of the XII century, an element of Pisa Cathedral epigraphy, provides biographic data on the persons mentioned, which deepens the existing knowledge on the development of epigraphic tradition of Central-Northern Apennine region in the XII-XIII centuries. The research findings are as follows: the author identifies Guido and Ricardo mentioned in the epitaph, reconstructs the circumstances of its creation, reveals its synthetic nature, notes that the epitaph occupies an intermediate position between Damasian and non-Damasian segments of an early medieval mausoleum, reveals the role of this type of inscriptions in the formation and development of Apennine funerary epigraphy of the XV-XVII centuries.
