Abstract

Amiodarone-induced keratopathy occurs against the background of systemic use of the antiarrhythmic drug amiodarone, due to deposition of iodine molecules in the lysosomes of corneal cell elements. Amiodaronic keratopathy is not a contraindication to the surgical treatment of cataract. In LLC “Tri-Z”, Moscow branch 2 patients were operated for cataracts on the background of stage 2 amiodarone keratopathy. High functional results were obtained: Visus = 0.9–1.0. Considering the possibility of progressing corneal changes with subsequent transition to the projection area of the pupil against the background of taking this drug, a consultation with a arrhythmologist was recommended in order to resolve the issue of replacing amiodarone with another antiarrhythmic drug. Key words: amiodarone; keratopathy; cataract surgery.
