Abstract

The paper considers the metaphorical use of lexical and phraseological units reflecting situations of irritating tactile effect denoted in the Russian language by the verbs «щекотать», «щипать», «царапать» (tickle, pinch, scratch) in speech. The aim of the study is to identify the cognitive models of metaphorisation of the tactile effect under consideration, to determine the typical figurative representations based on the initial situation. Figurative words with the same root as the original verbs and set figurative expressions including these words identified by means of contextual analysis are presented as a part of the motivational-figurative paradigms “Tickle”, “Pinch”, “Scratch”, numbering 65 linguistic metaphors, 3 phraseological units and 1 figurative word. The scientific novelty of the study lies in applying the methodology of propositional frame-based analysis when reconstructing the initial situation of the source domain of metaphorical projections. The study has shown that each component of the cognitive structure of the frames under consideration is subject to metaphorical rethinking. As a result, the cognitive model “X is an irritating tactile effect” has been described, metaphorisation aspects have been revealed, the cognitive foundations of the considered analogies have been presented.
