Abstract
The interrelation of socio-economic changes and professional requirements for future philologists is investigated, the concept of «philologist» is revealed and the characteristic of his activity is given. The article presents methodological approaches in language teaching, their characteristics, as well as substantiates the means used in the learning process and reveals their relationship with methodologies.
