Abstract

Objectives The purposes of this study is to identify the types of grit for child care teacher based on the two com-ponents of grit, perseverance of effort and consistency of interest, and to examine the differences in teacher effi-cacy and psychological burnout by identified grit type.
 Methods A survey was conducted on 638 child care teaches in Nationwide. Based on the collected data, cluster types were derived through hierarchical cluster analysis and K-means cluster analysis methods, and the analysis was performed by one-way ANOVA.
 Results The analysis of the data revealed that child care teacher's grit could be classified in to four types ‘low grit’, ‘perseverance of effort’, ‘consistency of interest’, and ‘high grit’ according to the degree of two components of grit. With this, there were significant differences of child care teacher's teacher efficacy and psychological burnout according to cluster types based on the grit.
 Conclusions Therefore, this research multi-dimensionally approached grit focused on these days, and, based on this, the child care teacher's grit is important for the development of teacher efficacy and psychological burnout, and that an social and policy approach that can enhance child care teacher's grit is needed for better teacher effi-cacy and psychological burnout.
