The article traces the role of the Church-Slavonic language in the process of developing the Ukrainian standard language of the XVI- the first half of the XVII centuries. Much attention is paid to the semantic processes in the Ukrainian language of that period, which were caused by influence of the Old-Slavonic language. Purpose : The purpose of the analysis is investigation the factors of the Church-Slavonic influence on the developing the Ukrainian standard language of the XVI- the first half of the XVII centuries. Results : The language of the Church among many peoples in the world play a special status role, influencing the developing different styles of the language in these societies. The important place of the Church-Slavonic language and its frequency in using in Ukraine in the XVI- the first half of the XVII centuries were caused by: a) relative understanding the Church-Slavonic language by Ukrainian population, b) desire of the authors of the religious texts to preserve lexical connection with the previous tradition, c) resistance of the Orthodox Church the Union and Catholic Church, d) translating activity of the Ukrainian cultural figures, e) special role of the Church-Slavonic words in the language-user. The influence of the Church-Slavonic language was not restricted only by the process of borrowing the words for denoting different, often religious notions, but also increased on the paradigmatic connections of the words in the Ukrainian system of language, as well as on the semantic processes in lexical-semantic groups and fields of this system. The tradition of the Old-Slavonic writings influenced D. Nalynajko’s vocabulary. The processes in D.Nalynajko’s works are different in their importance: they were the characteristic features of D.Nalynajko’s vocabulary, but not the general trend or reflect the general processes in the Ukrainian language of that period, caused by tradition of using those lexemes in Old-Slavonic writings. Key words : the Old-Slavonic language, the Church-Slavonic language, standard language, semantic processes, semantic structure.
