Abstract

The study aims to describe the structure and content of the ethnospecific ALTAI-KIZHI/ALTAIAN concept in the linguistic consciousness of the modern Altaians. The results of a free associative experiment conducted by means of a survey in the Altai language served as the empirical basis of the study. The work is novel in that it considers the ALTAI-KIZHI/ALTAIAN concept as a communicator of the national identity of the titular nation of the Gornyi Altai. As a result, it has been proved that the ALTAI-KIZHI/ALTAIAN concept possesses a rich field and reflects important features of the national mental representations of the indigenous people of the Altai Republic about themselves, their belonging to the ethnic group and Altai culture.
