Abstract

This study examined the mediating effects of self-worth in the relationship between narcissism and psychological adjustment in preadolescence. The participants of this study were 435 fourth-graders, 241 boys and 194 girls of elementary schools in Seoul. The results of the study are as follows. As the children’s narcissism increased, so did their self-worth. This means that self-worth is an attribute of narcissism in childhood, children’s narcissism is not differentiated from self-worth. Second, low self-worth in children influences depression and aggression. Third, self-worth mediates the associations between narcissism, depression, and aggression in children. The implications of narcissism were discussed.
