Abstract

This study is focused on analyzing the mediating effect of narcissism of early adolescents in the relationship between overprotective parenting and anger of early adolescents. For this study, a survey was conducted with 304 second grade students in a middle school in A City, Gyeonggi-do. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between overprotective parenting and overt narcissism and covert narcissism of early adolescents. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between overprotective parenting and anger of early adolescents. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between anger and overt narcissism and covert narcissism of early adolescents. Second, there was a full mediating effect of overt narcissism of early adolescents in the relationship between overprotective parenting and anger of early adolescents and there was a partial mediating effect of covert narcissism in the relationship between overprotective parenting and anger of early adolescents. This study has significance by making a contribution to the research on early adolescents by focusing on avoiding overprotective parenting and helping adolescents control anger and develop healthy narcissism.
