Abstract

This study analyzes 12 research papers focusing on the integration of English language education and global citizenship education (GCE) in South Korea from 2015 to 2024. The analysis reveals a predominance of research at elementary and university levels, while studies focusing on middle and high schools are comparatively scarce. Most studies pursued the dual objectives of enhancing English communication skills and fostering global citizenship awareness, with key themes including multiculturalism, human rights, and environmental issues. Teaching methodologies encompassed content-integrated learning, media-based learning, learner-centered approaches, and critical pedagogy. The effects of these integrated courses were global citizenship awareness and attitudes, English communication skills, socio-emotional and motivational aspects, and career and practical applications. Based on the research findings, the study discusses implications for future directions in integrated education.
