구조와 의미에서 살펴본 일본식 외래어 ‘아파트’ - 식민주의의 잔재를 넘어서 -

Abstract

Japanese foreign words transplanted during the colonial period must be purified. It is desirable to replace the Japanese word ‘terebi(テレビ)’ with ‘television’ or ‘TV’ However, it is not easy in reality to replace all of the Japanese foreign words we use with other words. It is a well􋹲known fact that Korean ‘빵’ is the Japanese pronunciation(パン) of Portuguese ‘pão’. It is almost impossible to change ‘빵’ to ‘pão’ in Portuguese or ‘bread’ in English these days. Because it has become our everyday language. The ‘아파트(apartment)’ we use is more dramatic than the ‘빵(bread)’. This is because it is different from Japanese ‘アパート (apartment)’ in terms of architectural structure and semantic meaning. The Korean word ‘아파 트’ is not an object of purification, but it should be said that it has already passed the stage of naturalization and has become a Korean language. In that sense, I think that it is necessary to reconsider the unconditional remnants of colonialism as Japanese foreign words introduced during the colonial period and still in use.
