Abstract

The article deals with the translation of phraseological units in film from the perspective of audiovisual translation (AVT) and cultural differences between the recipients of the film in the source and target languages. The comparative analysis of Russian cinematic material and English subtitles demonstrates that the predominant strategies in translation are phraseological translation and “neutralization” of the culture-specific component in idioms.
