Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mothers’ childhood parental attachment and paternal involvement on maternal parenting stress.
Methods The data collected from 218 mothers of children aged 3 to 5 who attend daycare centers and kindergartens in Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. SPSS 25.0 program were used to find out the relationship among the variables. The correlation analysis and verification of mediating effect were used.
Results The mother's childhood parental attachment was positively correlated with paternal involvement, and negatively correlated with mothers’ parenting stress. A partial mediating effect was indicated in paternal involvement in the relationship between mothers’ childhood parental attachment and the parenting stress.
Conclusions Each parental attachment had a positive effect on the father's parenting participation and helped reduce parenting stress. The results of this study can be used as a theoretical basis for encouraging paternal involvement and educating effective interaction among original families to reduce maternal parenting stress.
