Abstract

Objectives Recently, as the need for personality education has been emphasized, a plan to focus on early childhood teachers in charge of education has been proposed for effective personality education. Therefore, this study examined the effect on both early childhood teachers and college students in the intensive course of early childhood education at H Women’s University by applying the design thinking teaching method to early childhood personality education. Methods The class was conducted in the first semester of 2022, and 160 reflection journals submitted by a total of 40 students were analyzed using a text mining method. For topic modeling, we looked at the connection and distribution of each topic in the text, extracted the inherent concepts, and identified the potential knowledge structure in the context, and created a simultaneous network to examine the relationship between core main words, central words and semantic networks. Results As a result of analyzing a total of 7,870 words, ‘activity’, ‘early childhood education institutions’, ‘us’, ‘teacher’, and ‘personality education’ were derived as core main words. As a result of simultaneous network analysis to understand the potential semantic structure between the main words, the word “parent” was located in the center of the semantic network. Finally, as a result of conducting the topic modeling analysis, four topics were derived: ‘cooperative activity experience’, ‘divergent convergent thinking’, ‘cultivating practical competencies’, and ‘emotional and acceptance experience’. Conclusions Through early childhood personality education classes with design thinking, they were able to cultivate the personality of research participants. During class activities, they experienced cooperation, empathy and acceptance in relationships with colleagues or instructors, and were able to develop expanded thinking and practical skills such as new ideas. It was found that their potential experience was “parents.” Finally, the implications for this and the limitations of research were discussed.
