Abstract

The aim of the study is to present a semantic classification of Altai phraseological units with the somatism component kös ‘eye’. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that these phraseolo-gical units have not yet been the subject of a purposeful consideration using the material of the “Altai-Russian Phraseological Dictionary”. As a result of the study, semantic subgroups in the phraseo-semantic group (PSG) of phraseological units with the somatism component kös ‘eye’ have been identified and ana-lysed. The considered PSG in the Altai language is represented by the following semantic subgroups: 1) phraseological units (PU) expressing the relationship between people; 2) PU expressing a person’s state; 3) PU expressing human actions and characteristics of human actions; 4) PU expressing human behaviour; 5) PU expressing the qualitative characteristics of a person; 6) PU expressing a certain distance. The listed semantic subgroups are further subdivided into semantic categories. In terms of quantitative composition, the most numerous semantic subgroups are the subgroups of phraseological units expressing the relationship between people and a person’s state. Among the phraseological units under consideration, there is a variation and optionality of individual components, including the variation of the component kös ‘eye’.
