Abstract
The aim of the paper is to analyze the section “Biography of court eunuchs” of the “Ming shi”. Traditional Chinese historiography is extremely negative about court eunuchs. The article examines the life stories of lesser-known eunuchs: not villains and scoundrels, but devoted subjects who performed their duties honestly. In the text of “Ming shi”, the life stories of the Ming’s most despicable temporary servants deserve unequivocal condemnation, but in the biographies of “good” eunuchs also present a negative assessment, albeit in a more covert form.
