Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study the historical features of the of the citizenship formation during the existence of the Russian Empire and the institution of citizenship from the Soviet period to the present. The authors put forward theses on the relationship between the statuses of a subject and a citizen, according to the analysis of the regulatory database of the given periods. Special attention is paid to the basic requirements for the acquisition and termination of the status of a subject and citizen at the stages of its development; there is a clear democratization of Russian society. Based on the conducted research, the main trends of the state approach to obtaining the status of a citizen are formulated. Specific legislative acts that regulate the issue under the study is considered. The reasoned scientific point of view is given. As a result, the authors note that the Institute of Russian citizenship is a relatively young institution, and therefore the process of further democratic development and transformation is relevant.
