Abstract

The work is aimed at studying the features of the existential fulfillment of the personality of convicted women and men during middle adulthood. The empirical study was conducted on the basis of federal state institutions “Correctional Colony No. 1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Vologda region” in Vologda and “Correctional Colony No. 20 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Vologda region” in Ustyuzhna, Vologda region. The selection of respondents into age groups (the period of middle adulthood) is based on the periodization of D.B. Bromley. Two groups were formed: group No. 1 — 30 women serving a sentence of imprisonment in the Federal Penitentiary Institution IK-1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Vologda region; group No. 2 — 30 men serving a sentence of imprisonment in the Federal Penitentiary Institution IK-20 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Vologda region. The age of respondents is from 25 to 40 years. To solve the tasks, the following methods were selected: analysis of personal files, biographical method, scale of existence (authors — A. Langle and K. Orgler) to study the aspects of existential fulfillment, a test of existential motivations (author — V.B. Shumsky). Quantitative and qualitative analysis, nonparametric statistical Mann-Whitney U-test were used as mathematical methods of data processing and analysis. Based on the results of the study, it is planned to develop psychocorrection programs for women and men convicted for the first time in order to solve their actual existential problems and increase the level of their existential fulfillment.
