Abstract
The article describes the results of an experiment to identify the level of formation of phraseological competence of firstyear students of Omsk State Pedagogical University and Omsk Tank-Automotive Engineering Institute. Typical mistakes made by respondents in determining the meaning of phraseological units are revealed. The expediency of expanding the phraseological stock is substantiated, since the lexicon of the modern young generation reflects the linguistic picture of society as a whole.
