Abstract

The article uses several indicators and their dynamics to assess economic development of Russian regions. The indicators are holistic and require solutions that would target regional strategic goals and tasks, as well as national interests. While there are numerous and diverse strategic development programs, the majority of them rely predominantly on the socioeconomic basis. These programs face a key resource restriction due to a nationwide population drop and escalating competition over human resources at all management levels. Regional strategies are often developed locally and do not account for actions of other relevant participants. The articles seeks to substantiate significant tendencies and observed trends as a basic stage in regional strategizing. The author analyzes existing strategic forecasts and substantiates activities for changing current trends in population size dynamics exhibited by the Far Eastern Federal District.
