Abstract

The article examines the formation of the English-language skiing and figure skating terms by means of semantic transformation of colloquial lexemes (terminologization). The paper studies the functioning of such sports terms in the lexical system and in the discourse of the Internet sports magazines. Such means of terminologization as clarification and concretization of meaning, metaphorical and metonymical transfer are described. Functional peculiarities of the analysed terminology are revealed.
