Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the specificity of the human problem in the Altai epic. The article describes the architectonics of the world of the Altai epic legends, determines the place and role of the Altai hero in the epic worldview, and identifies the distinctive features of the Altai batyr as a bearer of the national distinctness. The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that for the first time the image of the batyr is considered in the context of the problem of the Altai identity formation. As a result, it is proved that in the epic legends of the Altaians, the batyr expresses the idea of a man in general and at the same time embodies the moral ideals, values, and national character of the Altai people.
