Abstract
The purpose of the article is to analyze the features of the formation of the city of Deshkin and Deshkin county from the foundation to the present situation. The author explores the history of the administrative-territorial units of Orel province – Deshkin county and its administrative center, the city of Deshkin. This entity was formed as a result of the provincial reform of Catherine II and abolished during the provincial reform of Paul I. Much attention is given to the history of the formation and creation of the county and its capital. As a result of the research, the author gives the reasons for the abolition of the administrative-territorial unit in the provincial system.
