Abstract

In recent years, the banking system of Ukraine has been operating and developing under extremely difficult circumstances. On the one hand, the banking market of Ukraine needs to develop and keep up with world trends in order to meet the conditions of joining the EU, and on the other hand, to face the challenges of today and support the national market in the conditions of active hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the Central Bank of Ukraine faced a number of important tasks: maintaining the economy and the population in a balanced state, conducting an effective monetary policy, the stability of the monetary unit in wartime conditions, and getting rid of banks with a Russian share in their capital. In view of recent years, a characteristic feature of the banking system of Ukraine is the fluctuation of its main financial indicators. In order to carry out an analysis, to identify critical problems and directions for their solution, it is first necessary to consider the current state of the banking system of Ukraine and the main reasons for the impact on changes. It is necessary not to forget the importance of analysis in dynamics, the causes of fluctuations and the effectiveness of already implemented actions. The purpose of the study is to analyze the current state of the banking system of Ukraine, to diagnose the causes of changes in the dynamics of the main indicators and to identify directions for the recovery of the banking sector of Ukraine in the post-war period. The article is devoted to the current state and priority areas of recovery of the banking sector of Ukraine in the post-war period. The article examines the dynamics of the number of banks in Ukraine and their structural divisions over the past 5 years, indicating the factors influencing the changes. The dynamics of assets and liabilities of the banking sector of Ukraine for the period 2019–2023 were considered and the main reasons for the changes were identified. The credit portfolio of the banking sector of Ukraine was analyzed. The dynamics of changes in the profitability of assets and capital of Ukrainian banks over the past 5 years were studied. The article outlined the current state of the banking sector of Ukraine for the period 2019–2023 based on the conducted research. The article highlights the priority areas of recovery of the banking sector of Ukraine in the post-war period. Appropriate conclusions were drawn from the conducted research. The following methods were used in the article: analysis, comparison, comparison, systematization, synthesis, description of facts and influencing factors.
