Objective: to describe the behavior of economic entities implementing the first projects in the sphere of digital transformation by the example of several service enterprises of the Republic of Tatarstan (medium-size businesses).Methods: abstract-logical and dialectical, phenomenological methods.Results: the main motives of digital transformation are described; conclusions are drawn about the main external and internal challenges of such transformations for business entities (enterprises) in terms of changes in socio-economic factors and structural changes in economic systems at the meso-level. Three stages of implementation of the first projects in the sphere of digital transformation among the Russian private companies are identified by the example of the Republic of Tatarstan. Scientific novelty: it is shown that the implementation of projects in the field of digital transformation by enterprises leads to a lot of external effects; the reluctance to finance the benefits of other economic agents of the enterprise can reduce interest in digital transformation; the relevance of the research in the field of the digital transformation impact on the business development of modern enterprises is shown; the authors show the need to develop research of the impact of digital transformation on the business development of modern enterprises, depending on the industry and the business model used. Practical significance: the understanding of the economic entities’ behavior during implementation of the first projects in the field of digital transformation, revealed in the work, makes it urgent to develop a set of non-profit organizations in the field of digital economy to increase social capital in the society, and also creates a basis for further research in this area.

Digital Transformation, Business Model, and Performance in the Context of Digital SMEs

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the impact of digital transformation on the performance of innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Despite the broad interest of academics and practitioners in digital transformation, little attention has been paid to the mediating role of business models in the link between digital transformation and SME performance. A survey of 419 innovative SMEs in France was conducted to examine the proposed conceptual model. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was relied upon to detect the correlation and linear regression of the study model. The results indicate that business models had a role in modifying the relationship between digital transformation and performance. The results contribute to deepening knowledge in the field of digital transformation and business models. The findings can form a guide that helps researchers and practitioners manage digital transformation and design performance-enhancing business models in the context of SMEs.

Regional digital transformation strategies: algorithm for updating projects and goals

Purpose: is to develop an approach to the procedure for updating regional strategic plans in the field of digital transformation, based on the algorithm for solving the problem of optimizing the levels of achievement of project goals in key industries of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.Methods: the research was based on the documents of the regulatory framework of strategic planning in the Russian Federation and the texts of approved and updated strategies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in the field of digital transformation. Methods of constructing strategic maps and decomposing goals, linear programming and finding the optimal solution were used.Results: the formulation of the linear programming problem has been detailed to find the optimal values for achieving the goals of digital transformation, taking into account the features of its field of application. The procedure for decomposing strategic goals and assigning coefficients of relationship between them is illustrated. The quantitative estimates obtained by the authors for solving the problem are presented and explained.Conclusions and Relevance: in the process of developing and subsequent updating of strategic plans for digital transformation, the constituent entities of the Russian Federation are guided by the recommendations of federal authorities and territorial specifics. They take into account new trends in the digital transformation of industries, achievements and limitations on the path to fundamentally different conditions for managing the region and doing business. Digital transformation is proceeding with varying degrees of intensity – there is both territorial and industry differentiation. To a large extent, the speed of transformation processes depends on the ongoing regional policy and the content of the implemented strategic digital projects. The revision of the list of projects and target indicators is due to the necessary adjustment of the goals and emphasis of the transformation process. Assessing the optimal values of industry development indicators, taking into account resource limits, serves the purpose of updating regional strategic plans in the field of digital transformation of key industries and areas.

Digital transformation of business models in SMEs

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are regarded as the backbone of most economies worldwide. They are key role players in job creation, economic growth and poverty alleviation. SMEs face many challenges such as resource constraints; a lack of skills, innovation, digital skills and finances; and continuous changes in the business environment. One such change is the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also referred to as Industry 4.0. SMEs lag in the adoption of digital technologies and are still using conventional methods as part of their business models, which poses a threat to their survival and competitiveness. Industry 4.0 comprises many constructs, including digitalisation and digital transformation. While digitalisation and digital transformation require a business to make changes to its business model, and business model innovation (BMI) offers such an opportunity, no study has combined the BMI process with digital transformation to determine if SMEs are digitally transforming their business models. The overall aim of the study was to determine the degree to which South African and Dutch SMEs are digitally transforming their business models. To achieve the overall objective, the study aimed to (1) review existing literature in the field of digitalisation, digital transformation, and business model innovation, (2) review the current state of the use of digitalisation and business model innovation in South African and Dutch SMEs, (3) develop a conceptual model to assess if South African and Dutch SMEs are achieving business model innovation through digital transformation and determine how this affects their overall business performance and (4) assess whether South African and Dutch SMEs are achieving business model innovation through digital transformation and determine the impact this has on their overall business performance. This study followed a five-stage approach. The first stage consisted of a preliminary literature review to explore current research and debates on digitalisation, digital transformation and BMI, with a particular focus on SMEs. In the second stage, a narrative review was conducted to examine the literature with the aim of identifying and analysing the constructs underlying the three concepts of digitalisation, digital transformation and BMI. The third stage was a Delphi study conducted with South African and Dutch SMEs and scholarly experts in the closely related fields of entrepreneurship, technology, business management and innovation to identify the main and sub-factors that enable digital transformation for BMI in SMEs. The fourth stage was a systematic review to identify the dimensions that are included in digital maturity models and to determine ways in which BMI is achieved. The last stage consisted of developing and empirically testing a research model based on the results of stages 3 and 4. The findings of the aforementioned studies led to the development of a research model. This research model was developed and empirically tested on South African and Dutch SMEs. The results indicate that BMI through digital transformation has a positive impact on the overall business performance of SMEs. In addition, the flexibility of the organisational structure and strategic renewal acts as moderator between the relationship of BMI through digital transformation and business performance. The proposed framework that resulted from this study guides SME owners and managers in ways to achieve BMI through identifying potential areas to integrate digital technologies, which is unique in its nature. This study is also one of the first to conduct an empirical research study to assess the degree to which South African and Dutch SMEs are digitally transforming their business models. SME owners and managers can therefore use the measuring instrument to assess the degree to which their business model has been digitally transformed. The instrument could also highlight areas of concern and for improvement.

The development of digital technology requires Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to adapt in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategy to improve digital literacy. The problems faced by MSMEs generally lie in limited technological understanding, lack of access to relevant digital information, and low utilization of interactive platforms that can support effective business management. These conditions hamper the ability of MSMEs to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive digital market. The purpose of this study is to examine the integration of AI in interactive websites as a means of transforming MSMEs' digital literacy, while also formulating an implementation model that can improve access to information, digital skills, and operational efficiency. The methods used include literature studies, field observations, and the development of an AI-based interactive website prototype with automatic data analysis features, learning content recommendations, and business digitalization guidelines. The results of the study indicate that the integration of AI in interactive websites can significantly improve MSMEs' digital literacy capabilities. MSMEs that were the subjects of the trial showed an increased understanding in the use of digital technology, optimization of online marketing strategies, and increased business productivity. The main conclusion of this study is that the implementation of AI-based interactive web not only plays a role as a digital education tool, but also as a strategic solution in reducing the digital literacy gap in MSMEs. This finding contributes to the development of knowledge in the field of digital transformation, especially in the use of artificial intelligence to support the empowerment of MSMEs in the digital economy era.

Today, digital transformation leads to the acceleration of processes and at the same time to the complication of relations between actors in world politics. The countries of the Central Asian region (CAR) in today's geopolitical realities are faced with a new challenge - the timely introduction of digital solutions to the dynamics of these conditions. In this context, the purpose of this study is to identify the main directions, problems and prospects of digital transformation of the CAR countries in the new geopolitical conditions. In this study, the method of game theory is used in the context of international relations on the example of the interaction of the CAR countries and the EU. The authors have carried out work on finding compromise strategies of interaction between the parties leading to certain Nash equilibrium. The results of the study showed that the implementation of joint projects of the CAR and the EU on digital transformation will make it possible not only to update outdated digital platforms, but also create conditions for increasing the competitiveness of transport hubs on the world market. This is especially relevant in today's unstable political and socio-economic conditions. The results revealed the problems of interregional cooperation based on game theory strategies in the field of digital transformation. The application of the game theory method helped to analyze the possibilities of regulating the state's position in the international arena. As a result, the authors managed to find a solution to the conflict of interests between the players and establish the optimality of their strategies.

Impact of regional digital transformation on public health: an empirical analysis based on 31 provinces in China

BackgroundWith the rapid development of digital transformation driven by big data and artificial intelligence in China, the field of public health is undergoing profound transformations. This study introduces technological innovation as a mediating variable into an analytical framework to systematically explore the impact of digital transformation on public health and the underlying mechanism.MethodsUsing panel data from 31 provinces in mainland China from 2010 to 2019, this study empirically investigated the impact of digital transformation on public health via two-way fixed-effect analysis. Moreover, the internal mechanism was determined by testing the mediation effect of technological innovation.ResultsThe research findings showed a significant positive relationship between digital transformation and improvements in public health. Mediation effect analysis indicated that digital transformation enhances public health by fostering technological innovation. Additional analysis revealed that the promoting effect in the central and western regions of China is more pronounced than that in the eastern regions.ConclusionThis study unveils that digital transformation significantly improves public health, especially through enhanced technological innovations that achieve health improvement, and proposes specific recommendations for future health development strategies. It not only offers a scientific foundation for government digital health policies but also provides a forward-looking perspective for academics engaged in the field of digital transformation and public health. Additionally, it empirically verifies the differential impacts of digital technology on public health across regions, provides scientific references for optimizing health resource allocation and narrowing regional health gaps, and contributes empirical findings toward achieving a Healthy China.

Digital transformation and digital maturity models: a blueprint strategic decision-making framework

Focusing on businesses, digital transformation has a significant impact on various sectors. It enables innovation practices, new or improved designs and processes, and new business models, restructuring the business value chain. Digital transformation is not just about development through adoption of new technologies. Even though organisations differ regarding their digital transformation process, there is a need for digital maturity models in order to assess the status quo of their digital transformation. Therefore, there is a lack of understanding on which are the critical elements that organisations need to take into consideration for their digital transformation journey. The purpose of this paper is to propose both a scientific and practical framework for designing, developing, and implementing a digital transformation journey. Many different digital maturity models have been examined and analysed implementing a three-phase literature review methodology. Based on the prior literature of digital transformation maturity models, a conceptual framework is proposed and tested with a case study. As a result, the synthesized framework could serve as a blueprint of strategic decision-making in digital transformation. This research spreads light on the field of digital transformation by expanding the role of digital maturity models. It is stated that more research needs to be done aiming to gain a deeper understanding of this topic.

Competitiveness of Polish enterprises in relation to the potential of cloud computing

Enterprises seek for possibilities to limit the costs and for areas that stimulate the level of innovation. Both of these aspects can be effectively supported by application of cloud computing, without a simultaneous need to make a choice of a trade-off type. The aim of the article is to prove that cloud computing provides entrepreneurs with the possibility to limit the costs and at the same time to support their activities related to the selected direction of innovation development. It has both a direct influence on the level and structure of costs in the enterprise, as well as an indirect influence, e.g. related to shortening the time for introduction of new solutions to the market, making decisions or limiting the costs of projects.

A study of digital transformation and MSMEs performance from a spatial perspective: Evidence from China

Aim/purpose – Not only have micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) been regarded as a driving force of the national economy, but they have also become im- portant in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. In general, today’s MSMEs face problems, such as high business costs, insufficient innovation, and inadequate manage- ment capabilities, that have all forced the digital transformation of MSMEs. However, in existing studies, the impact of digital transformation on performance is controversial, and the subjects are generally listed companies. In this paper, we have decided to use micro business survey data and analyze them from a spatial perspective to explore how MSMEs’ digital transformation plays a role in influencing performance and the path of its effect. Design/methodology/approach – We use a sampling method with a dual directory- -regional sampling frame to investigate MSMEs in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China and then delve into the impact of digital transformation on enterprise performance from a spatial perspective by the spatial weighted logit model. Findings – Hierarchical analysis shows that there is a large room for improvement in the Digital transformation of enterprises. The digitalization level of an enterprise has a posi- tive impact on performance. While from a spatial perspective, the digitalization level of neighboring enterprises has a negative impact on the performance of the enterprise. Path analysis shows that the digital transformation of enterprises can increase innovation, reduce costs, and improve the performance of enterprises. Originality/value – We provide an empirical basis for vigorously promoting the digital transformation of enterprises, jointly building digital parks, and improving enterprise performance by reducing costs and improving efficiency. At the same time, it provides relevant suggestions for digital transformation for manufacturing MSMEs that are hesi- tant to see or are at a loss in the digital transformation and helps manufacturing MSMEs to achieve cost reduction and increase efficiency. The work is devoted to studying the impact of digital transformation on the gross value added of municipalities. The main problem is to identify the key factors that determine the relationship between digital development and economic growth at the local level. The authors emphasize the need for an integrated approach to assessing digital transformation processes. This approach includes an analysis of compliance with regulatory requirements in the field of digital transformation. An important element is the assessment of the social consequences of the introduction of digital technologies. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the economic consequences of the digital transformation of various industries. Particular attention is paid to the role of public administration in creating a favorable environment for digital transformation. It is noted that in order to achieve the maximum effect of digital transformation, it is necessary to adapt existing assessment methods. It is important to take into account the specifics of each municipality. It is also necessary to expand the data sources used for analysis, which will allow for the most objective assessment of the current state of digital development. Based on the data obtained, effective digital transformation strategies can be developed. Digital transformation as a catalyst: linking green CSR to sustainable development through environmental strategy and innovation in Pakistani SMEs

PurposeThis study examines the impact of green corporate social responsibility (GCSR) on corporate sustainable development (CSD) in Pakistani small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by investigating the mediating roles of environmental strategy (ES) and green innovation (GI), as well as the moderating effect of digital transformation (DT).Design/methodology/approachWe surveyed 410 managers and employees from diverse SMEs in Pakistan. We used structural equation modelling (SEM) and partial least squares path modelling (Smart-PLS) to analyze the data.FindingsThe results show that GCSR is positively related to CSD, with ES and GI mediating this relationship. DT positively moderates the relationships between ES and CSD, GI and CSD, and GCSR and CSD.Practical implicationsThe results provide valuable insights for SME managers and policymakers. They suggest the importance of promoting digital adoption and green initiatives to enhance sustainable development. The study offers a framework for understanding how green practices, innovative strategies, and digital technologies can contribute to the sustainable management of SMEs in developing economies.Originality/valueThis study emphasizes the significance of GCSR practices and effective green strategies that can help sustain the development of Pakistani SMEs and the importance of digital technologies for sustainable development in these enterprises. The results can be useful for SME managers and policymakers as they suggest promoting a context that encourages digital adoption and green initiatives. Socio-Economic Exploration of Teaching Recovery: A Phenomenological Study on Island Teachers Implementing Learning Recovery Programs & Projects

This Phenomenological study discusses the lived experiences of island teachers teaching and school heads managing schools located at Cagraray Island of Malilipot, Albay Philippines. The study explores the socioeconomic factors that the teachers and school heads encounter in implementing mandated and school-initiated Learning Recovery Programs and Projects (LRPPs). Because basic education plays an important role in shaping the workforce of any country, it is then important for educators to strive and strengthen basic knowledge and skills among its learners, most specifically literacy and numeracy. One of the most significant actions taken by the Department of Education (DepEd) would be the implementation of Learning Recovery Programs and Projects (LRPPs) cascaded and mandated to all public schools in the Philippines. This also includes school-initiated programs and projects that schools have innovated as part of the campaign. The study then aimed to present the lived experiences of teachers and school heads in implementing these LRPPs. Specifically, the socio-economic factors that influenced the status and implementation of the projects. The study used thematic analysis in analyzing the collected and transcribed interview responses from the three island teachers and two island principals. Results revealed that there are external and internal socioeconomic factors that influence the status and implementation of the projects. External socioeconomic factors included: (a) Availability of resources; (b) Number of Projects and Programs; and (c) Local Government Units (LGUs) Support. The internal socioeconomic factors included: (d) Workload balance of implementers; (e) Desire for Professional Growth; (f) Dedication to the Teaching Profession; and (g) Learners’ and Parents’ Participation. Data collected also revealed that the status of the LRPPs and their implementers could be reflected in the level of external and internal factors evident.

Digital Business Model Transformation and MSME Performance: The Mediating Role of Green Intellectual Capital

This study addresses a gap in the literature by examining the impact of digital business model transformation on the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the mediating role of green intellectual capital.Drawing on the resource-based view and technology acceptance model, we propose a novel conceptual framework linking digital transformation, green intellectual capital, and MSME performance.Survey data from 250 batik MSMEs in Central Java, Indonesia, were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).The results indicate that digital business model transformation positively influences MSME performance, both directly and indirectly through the enhancement of green intellectual capital.These findings contribute to the literature by highlighting the importance of digital transformation and environmentally oriented intellectual capital for MSME success.Practically, the study offers insights for MSME managers and policymakers seeking to promote sustainable growth in the digital economy.

Features of Developing the Concept of Digital Transformation Using Simulation Modeling Approaches

The purpose of this work is to develop a concept for the digital transformation of a typical production area based on the performed enterprise survey and the study of international experience in the design and implementation of digital transformation projects in similar industries. The study is aimed at forming a list of regulatory documents and determining the requirements for the development of these documents. In this paper, the authors are discussing the development of a concept. As part of this study, an analysis of the subject area was conducted, during which several relevant publications from the RSCI and Scopus databases in the field of digital transformation in various industries were reviewed with a detailed study of case studies, including those involving the use of simulation modeling as a means of assessing changes in complex technical systems. Targets were formed and constraints for their calculations were defined.
