Abstract

Scholars who address the issues concerning the second language communicative competence claim that learners should be able to use a foreign language as a means to increase professional and general educational level, that is not only for communicative, but also for cognitive purpose. The development of non-standard, creative thinking skills meets the social demand of our society at the present stage of its scientific and technological progress, social, political and cultural development. The aim of this study is to clarify the psychological basis of holding an effective discussion, determine its principles and methods, reveal the influence of individual psychological characteristics, acts and actions of discussion participants while disputing socio-cultural and literature problems. The research objectives are to highlight the main principles and methods that ensure effectiveness of discussion process, specify individual psychological characteristics of participants that have an impact on successful discussion course, provide examples from fiction, which show behavior of communicators. On the whole, the conditions of discussion, its techniques and psychological aspect, as well as the consideration of individual psychological characteristics of discussion participants come forward, on one side, as an important facet of discussion, on the other side, they determine the its effectiveness, aiming at solving various cultural problems.
