Abstract

The research aims to characterise the state of ecological culture formation in primary school students with intellectual disability, which in accordance with the Adapted Basic General Education Curriculum Guidelines includes the following: commitment to environmental behaviour, taking care of one’s own health, positive attitude to a healthy lifestyle and respect for nature. The paper considers the notion of “ecological culture”, presents the results of a practical study of ecological culture formation in younger schoolchildren with intellectual disability (according to the abovementioned criteria), draws conclusions and outlines prospects for further work. The research is novel in that it identifies the psychological and pedagogical features that lead to difficulties in ecological culture formation in schoolchildren with intellectual disability, i.e. underdevelopment of cognitive activities, difficulties in analysing, synthesising and perceiving information, emotional-volitional immaturity, difficulties in forming beliefs, views and feelings, difficulties in forming personal learning outcomes. As a result, the researchers have determined the areas and procedures for ecological culture formation in younger schoolchildren with intellectual disability on the basis of an activity approach, have developed and tested an algorithm for ecological culture formation in children of the specified category.
