Abstract

The paper aims to consider the reasons for the variability of interpretation of common vocabulary in the process of judicial interpreting and their connection with the occurrence of communicative failures (CF). The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that it thoroughly analyzes the semantic aspect of CF when interpreting spoken speech with the usage of the Swedish and Russian languages. As a result, it has been revealed that CF occurs due to the difference in the semantic interpretation of certain lexemes by the participants of interlanguage communication when using borrowed words; ambiguity of colloquial nonce-words; absence of obvious designatum of a sign; mismatch of the semantic fields of lexis in the source and target languages or the semantics of a sign and subject correlation in the cases of interlanguage lexical homonymy.
