Many techniques for surface modification of metals and its alloys have been proposed to improve its mechanical strength and bioactivity. This paper incorporates an overview of surface modification of Ti with Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and Zirconium (Zr) as an osteoconductive compound. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique was used for coating on the Ti substrate with three different weight percentages of HAp and Zr. The characterization of the modified Ti substrate was done by XRD, FESEM, AFM and the biological behavior such as calcium deposition and hemocompatibility of the coating were also analyzed.Thehighly crystalline nature hexagonal structure of HAp and monoclinic structure of ZrO2 were identified by XRD. Larger particle were observed under FESEM and AFM result showed the roughness of films increased from 60 to till 103 nm. The bioactive coating showed excellent biological behavior on modified Ti substrate.
