Sn-filled single-crystalline wurtzite-type ZnS nanotubes.

A Sn-nanorod-templated process was used for the first synthesis of single-crystalline wurtzite-type ZnS nanotubes. The as-grown ZnS nanotubes are structurally uniform single crystals and are partially filled with Sn (see picture). Most of the tubes are straight with lengths ranging from several to tens of micrometers, diameters of about 150-250 nm, and wall thicknesses of about 50-80 nm.

A simple solution route to ZnS nanotubes and hollow nanospheres and their opticalproperties

This paper describes a simple solution route to ZnS nanotubes assisted by CNTs and toZnS hollow nanospheres by templating with in situ generated bubbles at low temperature.Two types of nanotube exist. One has two open ends with a very thin wall; the other has asealed end with a thicker wall. The hollow nanospheres have uniform thickness of nm and they formed dynamically controlled by the quantity of water. HREM results revealthat the nanotubes and hollow nanospheres are both composed of ZnS nanoparticles.The UV–vis absorption spectra exhibit large blue shifts because of quantum sizeeffects. These hollow structures may have potential applications in some areas.

Synthesis and characterization of semiconductor zinc sulfide nanotubes by soft-template method

ZnS nanotubes have been successfully synthesized from solutions containing a surfactant, Triton X-100 (t-octyl-(OCH2CH2)×OH,x=9, 10). X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) are employed to characterize the structure and morphology of as-synthesized product. XRD and SAED pattern indicate that as-obtained products consist of pure polycrystalline cubic-phase ZnS structures. TEM images reveal that most of the products are tubular structures, with diameters ranging between 37–52 nm and lengths up to 3 μm. The wall thickness of as-obtained ZnS nanotube is around 9 nm. The growth mechanism of ZnS nanotubes has also be proposed.

Preparation of ZnS nanotubes via surfactant micelle-template inducing reaction

Semiconductor ZnS nanotubes, with outer diameters in the range of 37–52 nm and lengths up to 3 microns, have been successfully synthesized from solutions containing a nonionic surfactant, Triton X-100 (t-octyl-(OCH2CH2) x OH, x = 9,10). The as-synthesized nanotubes have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The growth mechanism of nanotubes has also been discussed.

ZnS–Zn nanocables and ZnS nanotubes

ZnS-Zn nanocables and ZnS nanotubes have been synthesized by a thermochemical process in a simple and safe way. The as-prepared nanocables consist of a single crystal Zn core with a diameter of 20 nm and a polycrystalline ZnS sheath with a thickness of 8 nm. The evaporation of the Zn core leads to the formation of ZnS nanotubes.

Rectangular Porous ZnO–ZnS Nanocables and ZnS Nanotubes

Nanostructured ZnS nanocables and nanotubes (see Figure) with a rectangular cross section have been synthesized by chemical reaction using as-synthesized ZnO nanobelts as a template. A small blue shift is observed for the ZnO–ZnS cable structures, suggesting a small quantum confinement effect. The template-assisted method is demonstrated to be a unique technique for producing nanostructures with controlled morphology.
