Abstract AlSb thin films were grown on the brass sheet substrates using single step electrodeposition. For the preparation of AlSb films, 0.05 M aluminum trichloride (AlCl3), 0.04 M antimony trichloride (SbCl3), 0.20 M citric acid (C6H8O7·H2O) and 0.30 M sodium tri citrate (Na3C6H5O7·H2O) were used as electrolytes in the electrochemical bath. The crystalline phase, morphology, compositional and optical properties of the AlSb thin films have been studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) and optical absorption techniques respectively. The X-ray diffraction studies reveal that electrodeposited AlSb thin films are polycrystalline in nature with zinc blend crystal structure. The SEM studies confirmed that the electrodeposited AlSb films show smooth, uniform and large spherical grains morphology. The EDAX studies confirmed that the deposited thin films are nearly stoichiometric. The indirect energy band gap for the AlSb thin films is found to be about 1.62 eV. The hot probe studies confirmed that AlSb thin films have p type conductivity.
