Objectives This study aimed to investigate whether career adaptability mediates the relationship between grit and future career achievement among adolescents, based on the Career Construction Theory. Methods Utilizing longitudinal data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey from the 3rd year (2020) to the 5th year (2022), a total of 1,391 participants were included. The respondents were in the 3rd grade of middle school in the 3rd year, and in the 2nd grade of high school in the 5th year. Results Statistical analysis using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS MACRO v.43 revealed that career adaptability mediated the relationship between grit and future career achievement. Specifically, higher levels of grit were associated with greater career adaptability, which implies a stronger belief in one's ability to achieve desired occupations in the future. Conclusions The findings underscore the importance of enhancing grit and career adaptability in fostering confidence in future career achievement. Additionally, implications, limitations, and suggestions for youth career education and counseling contexts were discussed.

Objectives This study conducted a qualitative case study focusing on the Future City Youth Career Fair to reveal the operation process of the local government youth career experience program and the characteristics and meaning of the process. Methods Qualitative research was conducted to understand the operation process of local government youth career programs, and data were collected through participatory observation and in-depth interview research techniques. Results As a result of the research analysis, the three-step operation process of “prepare urgently,” “concurrently proceeding with other festivals,” and “finishing quickly and planning the next year” appeared. In addition, characteristics of the career program operation process were “setting trendy popular career content,” “lack of collaboration with school and local youth career-related organizations,” and “a lot of participation and relatively weak presence” due to simultaneous holding of other festivals. Conclusions Accordingly, this study suggested that local governments need to investigate, analyze, and develop experience programs for career experience content, urge close networks and collaboration with schools and related organizations, and carefully analyze the pros and cons of holding solo and holding other events when promoting large-scale career experience programs, such as career fairs or career festivals, predict the results of both sides and choose whether to hold them simultaneously.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a community-based project class on student capabilities. The study centers on a meticulously designed project in collaboration with a local youth career center, aiming to identify challenges faced by the center and formulate five new curricula to address these issues. Through an analysis of data collected from survey results, activity reports, and student reflections, this study unveils compelling evidence of the positive influences on students' communication and problem-solving skills as well as social engagement. The findings from this study contribute valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on the efficacy of community engagement within the higher education framework.

Enhancing Social Workers’ Capacity Building for Career and Life Development Services: A Quasi-Experimental Outcome Study

Purpose: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a training program for social workers who provide services for promoting the career and life development (CLD) of non-engaged youth (NEY). Methods: A quasi-experimental design was utilized to compare the changes between the training ( n = 58) and the comparison groups ( n = 48). Focus groups and individual interviews with training participants ( n = 13) and guest speakers ( n = 2) were also conducted. Results: The training group showed greater improvement in all four aspects of capacity building—implementation, commitment, knowledge, and orientation—than the comparison group. The qualitative analysis generated four themes about how social workers benefited from the training program. Discussion: The findings provided evidence for the positive impact of the training program in building social workers’ capacity for facilitating NEY's CLD. As such, the Program offers a holistic framework of CLD-related theory and practice for social workers and evaluators.

The Impact of Family Relationship Quality on Youth's Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy: The Mediating Role of Youth's Positive Decision-Making Skills

Although studies have focused on identifying the association between family-related factors (e.g., family relationship quality) and youth's career decision-making self-efficacy, additional empirical evidence is necessary to clarify the potential factors influencing the connection between family relationship quality and youth's career decision-making self-efficacy. The present study aimed to investigate the impact of youth's perceived levels of family relationship quality on their career decision-making self-efficacy and the mediating role of their positive decision-making skills among 425 youth participants in a southeastern region of the United States. The authors of this study conducted a mediation analysis using longitudinal data at two different time points in order to investigate the mediating effect of youth's positive decision-making skills. Results indicated that family relationship quality did not have a direct association with youth's career decision-making self-efficacy. Instead, youth's positive decision-making skills had a full mediating effect on the association between the quality of youth-family member relationships and their self-efficacy for career decision-making. Implications for family life educators, researchers of youth career development, and family counselors are discussed.

An early start at a professional soccer academy is no prerequisite for world cup soccer participation

Introduction829 players from 32 nations on five continents participated in the 2022 men's World Cup tournament in Qatar. Not much is known about the youth careers of World Cup players from all over the world, especially about the age at which they began playing youth soccer in a professional academy. This study aimed to provide insights in the age national team players participating in World Cup Qatar 2022 started playing for a professional soccer academy and whether their starting age relates to continent and their current playing position (i.e., goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards).MethodSystematic online desk research was conducted to determine the age at which World Cup players started playing for professional youth soccer organizations. The median and interquartile ranges were expressed for the starting age in professional youth soccer organizations and the current age at the World Cup. The variables were compared with playing position, the continent of the player's World Cup nation, and the continent on which the player was raised.ResultsThe results reveal that World Cup Qatar 2022 players started playing for professional soccer academies at a median age of 13.2 years (range: 4.2–22.6). In Europe, players started playing for professional youth soccer organizations earlier than players on other continents [χ2 (4) = 142.0, p < 0.001]. We also found a younger starting age in forwards than goalkeepers (p < 0.05).DiscussionIn most established soccer nations in Europe and South-America, World Cup players started playing for professional soccer academies before the age of 12. However, a significant number of players started later, especially players on other continents, which reveals the different pathways youth players can follow to the elites.

Reciprocal Associations Between Science Efficacy, STEM Identity and Scientist Career Interest Among Adolescent Girls within the Context of Informal Science Learning.

Limited research has explored the longitudinal pathway to youth career interests via identity and efficacy together. This study examined the longitudinal associations between science efficacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) identity, and scientist career interest among girls who are historically considered as an underrepresented group among scientists. The sample included 308 girls (M age = 15.22, SD age = 1.66; 42.8% White) from six STEM youth programs, each at a different informal science learning site within the U.K. and the U.S. Longitudinal structural equation modelling demonstrated that science efficacy consistently predicted STEM identity and scientist career interest, and similarly, STEM identity consistently predicted science efficacy over a two-year period. Scientist career interest at 12 months predicted science efficacy at 24 months. The coefficients of efficacy predicting STEM identity and scientist career interest were significantly larger compared to STEM identity and scientist career interest in predicting science efficacy from 12 months to 24 months. Further mediation analysis supported a significant pathway from STEM identity at 3 months to scientist career interest at 24 months via 12-month science efficacy. The findings highlight that science efficacy and STEM identity for girls relate to their scientist career interest and these longitudinal associations are reciprocal. This study suggests that science efficacy and STEM identity mutually influence each other, and enhancing science efficacy and STEM identity is key to promoting adolescents' interest in being a scientist.

Exploring Strategies to Enhance TVET Engagement in Maldives to Improve Youth Career Development

Several aspects of the Maldives’ recent development pattern highlight imbalances between labor demand and supply. Public sector jobs are predominantly in the civil service with the rapid expansion of cadres in the 1990s and 2000s. However, with the increasing standard of living over time, the labor market has become more challenging for Maldivians in general. Increasing educational attainment among the younger generation and expectations have coincided/collided with the rapid growth in low-skill service jobs associated with tourism and construction, leading to a mismatch in skills supply and demand.Despite the high levels of growth and labor market conditions in public investments, tourism, fisheries and non-tradable tourism related activities, important challenges remain for young Maldivians. TVET is perceived as second-class option to most of the youth. Many reasons that cloaked these issues such as lack of awareness, publicity and career readiness. This research seeks to identify the issue and challenges and strategies that can be implemented to enhance career development among Maldivian youth on TVET. Mixed method has been adapted in this research by employing questionnaires and conducting interviews. 200 respondents participated in the survey and five experts were involved in the interviews. Data were analysed quantitatively for survey and thematic analysis for the qualitative data. According to the findings, a majority of respondents (81.7%) have heard of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), but less than half (45.2%) understand that it can lead to better employment opportunities. Experts have identified seven strategies to improve TVET for youth career development, including promoting it through electronic media, launching a national campaign, strengthening partnerships with industry, branding and holding skills competitions. This information is valuable for policymakers and stakeholders in the Maldives as they work to design and implement effective and coordinated government support for TVET.

DEVELOPMENT OF A CAREER INFORMATION SERVICE MODEL THROUGH WORK TOURISM TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE YOUTH CAREER ASPIRATIONS AT SMPN 1 ENREKANG

This research is research Development of a career information service model through work tourism techniques to improve youth career aspirations. The purpose of this research is to; (1) knowing the need to develop a model of career information services through field trip techniques to increase the career aspirations of adolescents at SMPN 1 Enrekang. This type of research uses R & D (Research and Development) using the Borg & Gall model, namely the development model used to develop products career information services through field trip techniques. Data collection was carried out using interview techniques, questionnaires, and product validity, practicality and effectiveness assessment sheets. The data obtained was then analyzed with statistics. The results of the study indicate that it is necessary to develop a career information service model through field trip techniques. Based on the needs analysis related to the development of the service model, it was found that students needed career information services through field trip techniques. From the results of a questionnaire given to 32 class VIII A students at SMPN 1 Enrekang, the result was that around 75% of students did not know their career aspirations. Information was also obtained regarding the field trips needed by students based on a questionnaire given to 60 students from SMPN 1 Enrekang and SMPN 2 Enrekang, namely 30 police stations, 10 Kodim offices, 6 agency offices, 5 banks, and 4 printers. the results of the needs analysis determine the location or object of the career field trip, namely the police office, district military command office, agencies, banks and printing houses.

The Impact of Labor Market Risk on Youth Career Preparation for Sustainable Development: Evidence from Taiwan

The issue of how youth are motivated to prepare for their careers has been longstanding, yet studies in this area remain limited. This study examines the effect of labor market risk, such as wages and unemployment, on the career preparedness of young people, taking the example of Taiwan. Multi-year cross-sectional data from a manpower utilization survey and higher education survey were used, and logit models, including the multilevel-multinomial logit model and ordered models, were employed to analyze the empirical data. The findings suggest that youth career preparation is positively affected by market risk variables. Additionally, school participation and parental employment status appear to play important roles in determining the career preparedness of young people. It is essential that sustainable development is enabled so that today’s youth can develop the skills and capabilities necessary for a prosperous future.

Career and life development intervention for non-engaged youth: Evaluating the Hong Kong Benchmarks (Community) Pilot Program.

In our study, aimed at examining the effectiveness and impact of the Hong Kong Benchmarks (Community) Pilot Program, a career and life development (CLD) intervention program targeting non-engaged youth (NEY) in Hong Kong, we employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to compare changes in career-related competencies between a pilot group (N = 289) and a comparison group (N = 160). We also conducted five focus group interviews with the leaders of nongovernmental organizations, social workers, NEY, parents, and employers to explore the program's impacts on the CLD service provisions. Our quantitative results indicate that the piloting group showed greater improvement in two career-related competencies-youth career development competency and career and life development hope-than the comparison group. Meanwhile, our qualitative results suggest both the benefits and difficulties experienced by stakeholders in the program. The findings thus provide preliminary evidence of the Hong Kong Benchmarks (Community) Pilot Program's positive impacts on NEY and other important stakeholders. The implications of expanding the existing program and theorizing the community-based benchmark approach are also discussed.

Teenagers living in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, where technology is developed and academic convergence takes place, need various experiences and a convergence education environment. Therefore, this study is an “Artificial Intelligence Robot Design Experience Group with Metabus” program to operate a university career exploration camp, and a total of 211 middle and high school students participated from May to November 2022. In the satisfaction and survey, more than 93.4% of middle school students and 96.4% of high school students responded positively that they wanted to re-participate in university career exploration camp activities. The research results have embodied the career goals of middle and high school students in the field of convergence of intelligent robot new technologies and serve as a hub for various experiences and convergence education courses for teenagers living in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. It is expected that the university career exploration camp program of this study will be used for youth's career in the future, and many studies on university career exploration camps will be conducted as a convergence program between engineering and art.

Adolescent parent perceptions on sustainable career opportunities and building employability capitals for future work

ABSTRACT As primary career influencers, parents must support adolescent children in navigating evolving and increasingly challenging employment landscapes. Using a capitals lens, this study explores secondary school parents’ capacity to provide informed career advice and their perceptions on factors known to enhance youth employability and employment prospects. Survey data were collected from 301 Australian secondary school parents to examine their understanding of sustainable youth career opportunities, what can aid youth’s employment prospects, and their utilisation of available resources to support career advice for adolescents. While parents’ perceptions of opportunities by sector and industry aligned with wider thinking, many lacked awareness of contemporary trends impacting on youth career progression, did not engage with external career resources, and were not confident in their understanding of youth labour markets. Some recognised the importance of cultural and psychological capital for securing and sustaining employment, yet undervalued aspects of human capital (work experience) and social capital (networks). Variations in parent perspectives by education level and their own career experiences highlights the need for targeted strategies to better support parents in providing informed career advice for future adolescents’ success.

The components that motivate students to participate in physical education have been studied. The priority directions for the formation of a healthy lifestyle in the process of education have been determined. It has been established that health is a natural and absolute vital value, which occupies the top rank in the hierarchy of human values, as well as in the system of such categories of human existence as interests and ideals, harmony, beauty, meaning and happiness of life, creative work, program and rhythm of life. It has been proven that the attitude to health includes a person's self-assessment of his physical and mental state, which is a kind of indicator and regulator of his behavior.
 A decrease in the level of health and physical capacity of students is a consequence of significant psycho-emotional stress, violations of the hygienic justification of the daily routine and nutrition. To form an attitude to health as the most important value, to give the knowledge of valeology necessary for the life of each individual, to teach to follow a healthy lifestyle - the main task of modern physical education.
 Therefore, the formation of a broad worldview of culture, a careful attitude to one's own health as important components of a lifestyle is decisive in achieving career and life success of modern youth. The problem of forming a healthy lifestyle of modern youth is one of the most urgent, the solution of which determines the future of the state and the further existence of a healthy nation.

The Interconnection of Online and Offline Spaces in Sweden’s Rural Youth Career Learning

Digital technologies broaden opportunities for accessing career information and support, which some argue to be unlimited by time and space. The internet could give rural youth access to information resources beyond those available within their local community. However, little is known about the extent to which rural youth utilise online career resources or how it could widen their perspectives while learning about careers. This study focuses on rural upper secondary school students’ use of online career resources and their perceived role in their career learning when graduating. A cross-sectional survey of year 12 upper secondary students (n = 267) from 21 schools in rural Sweden was conducted, revealing the complexity of youth career learning as a continuing interrelation between people and spaces. Opportunities and challenges presented by the online space are discussed as they relate to rural students’ career learning in their final year of upper secondary school. <strong>Abstrakt</strong> Digitala tekniker ökar utbudet av karriärinformation och -stöd, och gör det obundet av tid och plats. Internet ger ungdomar på landsbygd bättre tillgång till varierad karriärinformation, än vad som finns i det egna lokalsamhället. Men det saknas kunskap om i vilken utsträckning landsbygdsungdomar använder sig av webbaserade karriärresurser, och hur det bidrar till vidgade perspektiv i deras karriärlärande. Denna studie fokuserar hur gymnasieungdomar i landsbygd använder webbaserade karriärresurser, och vilken betydelse det har för deras karriärlärande inför övergången från gymnasieskolan. En enkät genomfördes med tredjeårselever (n = 267) i gymnasieskolor på landsbygden. Resultatet beskriver en komplexitet i ungas karriärlärande, som präglas av ett samspel mellan människa och plats. The paradoxical effects of social class on career adaptability: The role of intolerance of uncertainty.

As a growth background factor, family social class has far-reaching effects on youth career development. However, we have limited understanding of the role and functional mechanisms of social class in career adaptability. Based on the social cognitive theory of social class, we examine the mediating role of intolerance of uncertainty in the relationship between youths' subjective social class and career adaptability. We also explore the moderating influences of self-esteem. Data were collected from a sample consisting of 712 undergraduates (63.2% female) in China. Results show that subjective social class positively impacts career adaptability via prospective anxiety, and negatively impacts career adaptability via inhibitory anxiety. The intensity of these indirect relationships is contingent on youths' self-esteem. Our study illustrates the complex and paradoxical effects of social class on career adaptability and has important theoretical and practical implications. This study expands the theoretical perspective by bringing in the social cognitive theory of social class, provides novel insight into the complex interaction between individuals and the environment in youth career development, and should provide inspiration for the design of career intervention programs.

The purpose of this study is to confirm the relationship and structure of depression/anxiety, subjective happiness, and self-esteem on the career maturity of adolescents, and to confirm the mediating effect of self-esteem. For the study, the structural equation model was analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0. First, depression and anxiety in adolescents had a significant negative effect on self-esteem, and subjective happiness had a positive effect on self-esteem. Second, self-esteem had a significant positive effect on career maturity. Third, depression/anxiety of adolescents had a negative effect on career maturity as a mediating effect on self-esteem, while subjective happiness had a positive effect on career maturity as a mediating effect on self-esteem. Based on the results of this study, it can serve as basic data when operating programs to strengthen youth career maturity or establishing educational policies later.

A Study on the Experiences of College Student Mentors Participating in Community Networks Youth Career Experience Programs- Focusing on the Case of “Ggumridan-gil”

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of youth career experience programs in connection with the local community and to examine their meaning based on the experiences of university student mentors who participated in the "Ggumridan-gil " program. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with 8 university student mentors who participated in the "Ggumridan-gil " program. 15 topics and 6 categories were derived based on the collected interview contents. First, the "Ggumridan-gil" program, in which teenagers took part, first and foremost signifies "restoring the essence of career experience," which has been validated as a "professional education" and shown to be a program that permits easy "rapport formation" between youth and adults. On the other hand, it was found that university student mentors were in charge of the role of "supporters and guides" and experienced "growth and change" with youth mentees who participated in the program. And it was found that the youth who participated in the program had a special experience of 'community support'. Based on these research results, this study suggested that the " Ggumridan-gil" program can be a new model for youth career experience education based on connection and cooperation with the local community.
