A special place among the priority directions of our state development is occupied by programs aimed at attracting citizens to sports and physical culture. On the background of the increased interest of scientists and managers to the formation of a healthy lifestyle among Russian youth, the attitude of young people themselves towards a healthy lifestyle in general and sports in particular is interesting. The objectives of the sociological study were to determine the attitude of Kuban youth to sports, to clarify the real place of physical culture in the everyday practices of young people, to find out the means of preserving and promoting health, which modern young people prefer to use, as well as to identify factors that have both positive and negative effects on youth participation in sports and physical culture. Expert interviews and questionnaires were used as information collection methods. The study was conducted in August-November 2019 in five cities of Krasnodar region. The majority of respondents indicated that they do sports and physical training at least 2–3 times a week. Even if this allegation is done for the purpose of obtaining social approval, it can be stated that physical culture and sports occupy a certain place among the values of young people. Proper (healthy) nutrition, diverse physical activity, healthy sleep, positive emotions, timely medical examination and prevention were mentioned as means to maintain health. The main reasons that prevent modern youth from taking care of their health and practicing sports are laziness, free access to entertainment, a shortage of free time, diets, bad habits, lack of access to gyms. The fashion for a healthy lifestyle, promotion through the media, Internet mental settings for a beautiful healthy body, their own desire to be healthy, possible sports achievements, opinions of friends and family, prevention of diseases are the main factors stimulating sports activities.
